MY MOTTO
Semper fidelis has been on my family since many years ago.. What does it mean?
SEMPER FIDELIS
The surname Gubbins was first found in County Limerick where they held a family seat.
This well-known French family, originally De Goboin, were originally from Strasburg and arrived in Ireland about 1590. My family has a coat of arms, and a crest. The crest is a greyhound with the inscription “Semper fidelis,” which is a Latin phrase that means “always faithful” or “always loyal”. The earliest definitively recorded use of Semper Fdelis is as the motto of the French town of Abbeville since 1369. It has also been used by other towns and is recorded as the motto of various European families since the 16th century. Records show many families in England, France and Ireland using this motto. It was adopted by the US Marine Corps since 1883.
ALWAYS LOYAL
Since I can remember members of my family have worn a signate ring with the family crest. Mine I have had since my 18th birthday, and as can been seen has
worn away significantly over the years.
