Guest: José Antonio “Pino” Palomo and David Rodríguez
Electric bikes have quietly reshaped how people move around Sotogrande. What began as a small idea between José Antonio “Pino” Pino Palomo and David Rodríguez in 2020 has grown into one of the region’s most inclusive and enjoyable ways to explore nature, culture and coastline. Their brands, Serendipity and EcoBike, were born just before the pandemic, and the unexpected pause gave them time to refine a simple mission: make cycling easy for everyone.
Today, their operation blends rentals, sales and guided experiences, supported by a specialist workshop, service vans and a fleet of premium e‑bikes. And the result is a style of cycling that feels effortless, social and genuinely accessible.
E‑Bikes Changed Who Can Ride
The documents make one thing clear: e‑bikes have transformed local cycling. Roughly 80% of rentals are electric, and the reason is simple, they remove the fitness barrier. Parents, grandparents, teenagers and casual holidaymakers can all ride together, covering long distances without strain.
Premium brands such as Scott, Riese & Müller, Moustache and Cannondale, fitted with Bosch, Brose or Shimano mid‑drive motors, give a natural pedalling feel and enough battery range for full‑day outings. Modern batteries commonly allow 60–140 km depending on size and assistance level, making even ambitious routes achievable.
Prices for good mid‑drive e‑bikes start around €2,500, rising with battery capacity and components. The company refreshes its fleet every two years and sells well‑maintained used bikes, keeping the stock modern and reliable.
Guided Experiences: Almoraima, Castles and Cork Culture
The guided rides are the heart of the business. They range from short family outings to full off‑road adventures in Almoraima, a vast 14,000‑hectare cork‑oak landscape filled with deer, vultures, wild boar and panoramic viewpoints.
A typical outing lasts three to four hours, with about two hours of cycling and time for:
- Cultural interpretation
- Wildlife observation
- Snack breaks or forest picnics
- Visits to the castle
- Stops at a local cork factory
Groups are kept small and well supported. Two guides accompany six to ten riders, and three guides join larger groups. Routes are adapted on the fly: less confident riders stay on main gravel tracks, while fitter cyclists take more technical off‑road sections and rejoin later.
The terrain is manageable thanks to full mountain e‑bikes, which make hilly areas comfortable and allow riders to adjust assistance levels to match their effort.
Longer Routes and Multi‑Day Adventures
For more athletic guests, the team offers extended loops:
- 25–30 km rides that feel satisfying without being extreme
- a 55 km lake circuit taking about 4.5 hours
- panoramic castle viewpoints with inland and ocean vistas
Multi‑day itineraries are also being developed:
- A two‑day San Roque–Ronda loop of roughly 100 km with an overnight stay
- Occasional three‑ to four‑day trips to Morocco, visiting Marrakech, Chefchaouen and the Rif mountains
These longer adventures are supported by vans for luggage and technical assistance.
Why E‑Bikes Fit Sotogrande’s Lifestyle
The documents highlight several reasons why e‑bikes have become so popular:
- They make cycling inclusive, allowing mixed‑ability groups to ride together.
- They support sustainable mobility, reducing short car trips.
- They encourage outdoor wellness, observation and connection with nature.
- They create social experiences, with rides designed around conversation, culture and shared discovery.
In a region defined by nature, coastline and low‑density living, e‑bikes feel perfectly aligned with the lifestyle.
A Service Built on Trust and Local Knowledge
Pino and David emphasise service as much as equipment. Their workshop has specialist mechanics, their vans support tours and rentals, and their guides tailor every route to the least experienced rider. Bookings are handled quickly through Instagram, WhatsApp, phone or email, and the team provides personalised advice on the right bike, battery size and experience.
Their business grew during a challenging period, but the documents show how the pandemic gave them time to refine routes, training and services, and how e‑bike technology expanded the range of customers they could serve.
Cycling Sotogrande, Almoraima and Beyond

And judging by the repeat customers, the growing fleet and the expanding routes, this is only the beginning.
